The Salicylic Acid Peel

Salicylic Acid chemical peels work to reduce bacteria, inflammation and excessive sebum from deep within the pore that can otherwise proliferate and create a rough, blotchy appearance. Salicylic Peel – Results

With use of this peeling solution, your skin may become red and take on a frosting appearance during application. In some cases, the skin will have a temporary anesthesia or numbing effect. Breakouts may also occur after peeling. This reaction is normal and the breakout is due to the pores cleansing and bringing debris to the surface. Salicylic Acid Defined

Salicylic Acid, also known as Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA), is derived from the bark of the willow tree. Standard Benefits: Improved skin tone, texture and clarity. Reduction of acne, clogged pores, shallow wrinkles, fine lines, melasma and hyperpigmentation. Increase in collagen and elastin production.
Side Effects: A slight stinging sensation has been noted upon initial contact as well as heightened skin sensitivity, flaking and minor redness. Vigilant broad-spectrum sunscreen use is crucial for post-peel success.
Level: Ranging from VERY SUPERFICIAL to MEDIUM skin penetration
Potency/Strength: Ranging from LIGHT (30%) MEDIUM (50%) and DEEP (70%)
The PH Factor: PH determines the acidity or alkalinity of a chemical solution. As the PH lowers, AHA Kojic Acid’s intensity/strength increases.

Downtime: Mild/Moderate -Varies accordingly to individual skin traits. Superficial to medium depth peels approximately require a 7 to 10 day recuperation period.

AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) Kojic peels are availabe in 30%, 50% & 70% strength peels with pH levels ranging from 0.9 to 1.2. A custom designed peel specifically to treat hyperpigmentation. Its a multitude of lightening agents including Kojic, Bearberry and Licorice extracts.
Suitable for all those who are new to peels and exfoliating agents. For optimal results use as often as every 7-10 days, for severe hyperpigmentation a total of 8 treatments is recommended. To maintain results take home products should be used daily.

Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA)

Trichloroacetic Acid, often referred to as TCA, is an effective chemical agent used to exfoliate and renew the skin on a superficial to medium level. TCA is most frequently applied to the face, neck, décolleté, and hands. In addition, TCA is also an excellent “spot treatment” and can be used to exclusively peel isolated areas of the skin.
Available Strengths: 10 – 30% (Results will vary upon selected MedPeel solution).

A Multi-Tasking Peel For Potent Results

The range of depth achieved from a TCA Peel varies according to concentration potency, application methods and of course skin type. Upon application, the solution goes deep into the skin’s dermis actively seeking protein to neutralize itself. The time and pressure employed will also have a substantial effect on the TCA Peel’s permitted depth of skin penetration. For minor epidermal improvement, TCA 10% Light Peel will be effective. However, if skin concerns exist within the papillary dermis, a stronger solution will be required.

The Skin-a-Peel

Unlike progressive, medium grade peels, such as Glycolic or Salicylic, TCA Peels exfoliate the skin more rapidly upon initial contact. The long-lasting results make it an ideal peel for those who prefer less peeling sessions at the cost of moderate downtime. Not All Peels are Created Equal!

The Jessner’s Peel

Jessner’s can be used to lighten areas of hyperpigmentation, treat acne and acne scars and to treat photo damaged and aged sun damaged skin. Jessner’s peel achieves a more thorough peel than AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) peels and is appropriate for patients requiring a deeper peel.

Jessner’s Solution

Jessner’s Solution, also known as Combe’s Peel, is a medium strength chemical peel combining the diverse efforts of Salicylic (BHA), Lactic Acid (AHA) and Resorcinol. New York Dermatologist, Dr. Max Jessner, originally formulated the solution to reduce the potency and toxicity of each individual ingredient, while enhancing the peel’s overall efficiency.

Available Strength: 14%

A Harmonizing Recipe for Clear Skin

The strength of Jessner’s Peel, much like the TCA Peel, is primarily controlled by the application methods of experienced Professional’s. Jessner’s potency increases with each individual pass (or coat) applied to the skin. The solution is painted onto the face in a progressive technique moving from the forehead onto the cheeks, down the center of the face and across the chin, upper lip and nose. Frosting will develop thus indicating the peel’s triumph over dead, dull skin!

Light/Medium Peel: 1-3 Application Passes.
Deep Peel: 4-6 Application Passes.

The Skin-a-Peel

Jessner’s comprehensive blend of chemical agents makes it an ideal solution for individuals with an extensive range of skin conditions.
